Gipsy Duende is one of the branches of the Danza Duende International School. Founded by Yumma Mudra (Myriam Szabo), it was born out of a study about the essence of Gipsy Dances in their universal expression and on how to best convey an art which requires that we dance fully from the heart - while trying to maintain in its teaching its essential wild and free nature.
This reflection naturally led to the conclusion that we do not become authentic, we give ourselves permission to be authentic.
Danza Duende is a long-term training that allows us to visit the very sources of form in our own mind and to discover our intrinsic potential, so that we can work in all aspects of life as if we danced our life.
It is a vision or an approach to art in which the form or technique is mainly used as a tool rather than a goal in itself. A tool that allows us to go back to the freshness and sincerity of gesture, as may be manifested by a child or an elder when they dance, while cultivating simplicity, improvisation and sense of humor.
We deeply work on expression and interpretation, besides posture, rhythm, technique and the speed of its execution, with steps, sequences and group movements, using some accessories such as the shawl and very wide skirts. We investigate on how to create a dance which is born out of despair and transforms itself into a generous offering of joy and celebration of the present moment, thanks to the magic of the duende.
